In this story, we see the well-established couple learning the need for complete honesty within their coupledom. And James, ah Jamesy, I wish I had been there to watch. Not saying any more or it'd be a spoiler. As for the little story Top Hat, it was a real treat and I could totally see that as how it began for Sam and Alex. I just always wanted to know what happened to Alex. So I guess that means we eventually find out? Yay.
The fourth in this series, I was reading as fast as I could in order to find out the answers that have been haunting Sam and Declan as Sam recovers from his serious injuries. The man who has caused his PTSD is safely at Sam's dad's house. Declan is determined to get Sir James back for his lack of caring for his son Sam. Was it the end of the series. NO! Now I have to wait for the next one to come out. But I will, anxiously, because I just have to know what happens. Good story, great series.
This is the fourth book in The Shatterproof Bond Series. What an captivating book the writing was great. The characters were well developed and thought out. The plot was riveting and it was steady throughout the book. I found the story and characters intriguing. Sam and Declan are the MC’s of this book and at this point a commit relationship. There was humor, intrigue, agents, secrets, husbands, mystery, lies and so much more in this book. I can highly recommend this book and the series. I voluntarily read an advance copy of this book for an honest review.
Solid 4.5 stars--another great installment in the Shatterproof Bonds series by Isobel Starling. Like the other books in this series, once I started reading, I was unable to put the book down. I love the chemistry between Sam and Declan; after the traumatic events they've been through, it may take a bit of effort to recapture the uninhibited physical relationship they've shared in the past. Both men need to work on their inter-relationship communication skills, both men need to drop some baggage and to face the constantly-materializing demons from their past. The deep love they share makes them over-protective of one another, and they both have a tendency to be a bit secretive in the name of "doing what's best for their partner". As more secrets come to light, more questions need to be answered. I am so looking forward to the next installment in this series. There are some really interesting secondary characters being introduced, and I hope we learn more about Sam's friend Kai. Counting the days until the release of the next book.
****The bonus short story at the end of Counterblow was intriguing; it will be interesting to see how this particular character from Sam's past affects
the present. Is there a possibility of Sam's past threatening all the men hold dear, or could it be something from Declan's past that may be a
threat? I have a feeling we still have much to learn about Young Declan's time in the service, especially since it seems there is actually time
and events that are unaccounted for.
Counterblow (Shatterproof Bonds 4) by Isobel Starling was the best one yet. This series gets better with each book. I am so looking forward to the next one in the series, Powder Burns.
As this is a continuing story of Sam and Declan, we find our couple getting over the last mission. Sam was injured and is now home to recover. I don't want to give too much away for those yet to read the series. Ms. Starling story just sucks you in and the vivid details just make it all the more intriguing. I found myself wanting to laugh and cry right along with Sam and Declan. I can't say enough wonderful things about this series.
Please make sure to read them in order as you will miss so much if you don't.
I also had the pleasure of reading her short story about Sam, Top Hat (A Sam Ailen Prequel). This was a wonderful look into Sam's character and explained a few things about him. A very enjoyable read, great for a lunch break or whenever you have a limited amount of time.
