Once I began reading, I didn't want to put the book down. The characters are likable and the chemistry between Lisette and Erik is delicious. The story is entertaining and engaging.
Cute story with a few twists and turns. I will definitely read more from Jennifer Griffith. Well-developed characters and a happy ending.
An interesting plot with good engaging characters and nice pacing. That Lisette finds her make-under necessary is believable, as are Erika motivations that makes the story a better read.
The protagonist runs into man after man after man who couldn't be more offensive caricatures if the author applied imagination. Within a few sentences, the men are always groping and nuzzling. Yes, this is offensive to the character until OMG THE HOTTIE ICELANDIC THOR WANTS TO NUZZLE HER. The author asserts that the character is ugly until she gets some self-pride so she can be validated for the smoking hot bod that had every guy in grad school drooling and every client in her business eroticizing her.
I would have never thought that a "make-under" would be necessary, but it definitely is in the case of Lisette. I enjoyed the storyline immensely, and the romance was cute and swoon-worthy. Sometimes I felt things were rushed or summarized too much. I would have loved for there to have been more to their interactions. Still a cute and fun (and clean!) romance.
I loved this final installment of the series! What a delightful and well-written story! It is quite possibly my favorite of the series, which is quite a feat considering Rachael Anderson is one of my favorite authors, and she has a novella in this series. Definitely check out all of Rachael Anderson's books, include her novellas!!
The moral of the story was wonderful, and it was completely clean. The one thing I would have appreciated if it had been done differently was if there was less of a focus on how good looking Erik was and more of a focus on his character, personality, etc. I kept waiting for Lisette to realize that she was too focused Erik's looks, much like men were with her own looks.
This is the first I've read of Jennifer Griffith, but I will be looking for more of her work!
Lisette wants to use her business degree and language experience in her business, Immersed. She offers herself as a private language tutor immersing her client in the language they wish to learn. Unfortunately, most of her clients seem confused about her job description. In order to ward off unwanted attention, Lisette undertakes a "make-under." She has no problems with her no dating policy anymore, until Erik Gunnerson comes along. Now he seems to see past her disguise, and she can't remember why dating clients is such a bad thing.
Immersed was a great conclusion to the Ripple Effect series. My only complaint is that the series is over! The romance was sweet, and the story somewhat predictable, but that didn't disappoint me at all. I loved Erik and the lengths he went to to get to know Lisette.
The stories can be read out of order or independently. The only ones I wouldn't do that with are Silver Linings (book 2) and Righting a Wrong (book 3). There's also a "boxed set" of the series as an eBook which is only $7.99, much cheaper than buying the books independently. I highly recommend the series!
Content clean, some kissing
Lisette Pannebaker starts a new business right out of college. She offers personal language immersion to clients who need to do foreign business. Her problem is that she is too beautiful and clients keep mistaking her for a call girl. She has sworn to herself never to date clients, and her looks are getting in the way.
Instead of ditching her failing business, she gets a make under, meaning that she purposefully makes herself look frumpy. Immediately she gets back to work as the linguist she advertised, as her clients are no longer looking at her physical possibilities.
Until Erik Gunnarson.
Erik is handsome, kind, intelligent, Icelandic, and wealthy--everything she's been looking for (except maybe the Icelandic part). Every time they meet, Lisette is tempted to ditch a little more of her disguise. And every time they meet she falls for him more. The cool thing is, it seems that he still likes her, even with the moles and nasty wigs and ugly sweaters.
Erik has a secret too--one that could destroy what the two of them have going. This isn't the first time they've met.
I enjoyed this book. I understand how a mom can really insert herself into her child's life, trying to force a positive outcome. Luckily Lisette has her own game plan in place. I like that she doesn't let appearances decide in the end what she will do, just as she hopes other people will not. I like that Erik looks beyond the surface as well. I love his loyalty. And I love how he deals with his own mother.
I'd get this sweet novella if you want a book with no sex, bad language, or other tense situations.
